Schmallenberg virus Outbreak among cattle in Germany
The virus causing congenital malformations and stillbirths in cattle, sheep, and goats is believed to be transmitted by midges (Culicoides). The official authorities claim that this outbreak could be an epidemic case like BSE years ago if the livestock importers don't pay extra attention to their livestock purchasing programs and take precautions against it.
